From humble beginnings as a confederation of tribal sheikhdoms on the shores of the Arabian Gulf to one of the richest countries in the world, modern United Arab Emirates (UAE) traces its history to the discovery of oil in the city-state of Abu Dhabi and surrounding areas in the mid 1930s. The largest of the seven Emirates, Abu Dhabi today is a captivating capital of commerce, culture and tourism with a diverse and vibrant population. Steeped in history and culture, this city of contrasts features glittering skyscrapers, peaceful residential communities, parks and beaches and state-of-the-art leisure and entertainment destinations.

Whether you are a nature lover, sports enthusiast or art aficionado, you will find plenty to do while living in Abu Dhabi. Trek to see the massive dunes of the Empty Quarter, kayak among beautiful mangroves or keep the weekend diary action-packed with the many art exhibits, concerts and sporting events that are organized around the city. Foodies will relish the authentic favors that await at Abu Dhabi’s varied restaurant scene, from Michelin-starred cuisine to Arabic street food, while a modern retail landscape spoils you for choice with malls featuring both familiar brands and new discoveries, bringing the best of the world right to your doorstep.

American International School in Abu Dhabi Facade

aisa_logo_teachThe American International School in Abu Dhabi is celebrating its 25th anniversary, having been established in 1995 to provide local and expatriate residents of Abu Dhabi with high quality American education, based on American standards and an international curriculum. AISA received its first accreditation in October 1997 from the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (MSA), and in January 2010 was accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS). AISA offers education from Kindergarten to Grade 12. It was the first school to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma in the UAE and later became the first school in Abu Dhabi to be authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Program (PYP).  In keeping with local regulations, the Secondary School is gender segregated.
