Celebrating 50 Years.

At Esol Education, sustainability education is part of teaching and learning across our schools. We believe schools help students understand the relationship between people, planet, and prosperity, and help them participate responsibly in a changing world.

Across the network, sustainability is explored in age-appropriate and meaningful ways. In the early years, students may take part in planting, Earth Day activities, and schoolwide awareness initiatives. As they move through the grades, sustainability develops through cross-curricular inquiry, project-based learning, Model United Nations, service learning, and other experiences that connect classroom learning with real-world issues.

Teachers across subjects, including Science, Social Studies, Language, and the Arts, often work together to design learning that helps students explore sustainability from multiple perspectives and develop student agency. Students also take part in eco-councils, green committees, school initiatives, and community-based learning that turn knowledge into action. .

Sustainability in Action

When COP28 took place in Dubai, Esol students were part of the conversation. Students from Fairgreen International School, Dunecrest American School, American International School in Egypt - Main Campus, and American International School in Egypt - West Campus participated through CGE Education's Decarbonize youth program, connecting school-based learning with a global sustainability forum.

Across Esol schools, sustainability can be seen in both learning and participation. Students take part in greenhouse and rooftop farm projects, aquaponics, design challenges, awareness campaigns, beach cleanups, and service-learning experiences that connect environmental responsibility with community engagement. At Dunecrest American School, students build environmental awareness through the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots & Shoots program. At American International School in Egypt - West Campus, students manage a working hydroponic greenhouse connected to science learning.

Fairgreen International School, located in The Sustainable City, Dubai, is a distinctive example of this work. Sustainability is part of the school's identity, its setting, and its daily learning experience. Fairgreen holds Platinum Green School certification and offers the full IB continuum, including the IB Career-related Programme with a business and sustainability specialism. The school's Eco-Council has engaged with scientists, environmentalists, and global leaders, including hosting actor and activist Will Smith during his visit to The Sustainable City. Ismahane Elouafi, a Fairgreen parent, and award-winning agricultural scientist, has been recognized as one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People.

By combining academic learning, student leadership, and purposeful action, Esol Education helps students contribute to a more sustainable future with curiosity, compassion, and responsibility.
